15 Skills Testing Modules towards earning the Junior Maine Woodsman patch.

Junior maine woodsman patchGOAL OF THE JUNIOR MAINE WOODSMAN LEVEL:
Individual Maine camps offer instruction and testing on each module to certify campers for the Level 1 Junior Maine Woodsman patch, and to lay the foundation for level II, Maine Woodsman.

 

Modules & Areas of Evaluation:

1.  Tool craft 6.  Trip Equipment 11.  Fire building
 2.  Canoeing 7.  First Aid/Wilderness First Aid 12.  Trees
3.  Individual Shelter 8.  Cooking   13.  Hiking & Backpacking
4.  Map & Compass 9.  Group Encampment 14. Leave No Trace Camping
5.  Map of Maine 10.  Maine Issues & Environmental Concerns  16  Outdoor Living Skills (General Knowledge)
Methods of Evaluation:
Oral Tests, skills tests, written tests, according to individual camps philosophy.

Length of Time Required:
Varies due to length of camp session & age.  Can be completed in one summer, or over several summers.


Level 2
MAINE WOODSMAN
Ages 12 - 14

Goal of the Maine Woodsman level:

Individual Maine camps offer instruction and testing on each module to certify campers for the Level II Maine Woodsman patch, and to prepare them for the 3rd and final level training of JMG. 

Modules are same as Junior Maine Woodsman, but at a more advanced level.

Ages: 14-18

Participants must have completed levels 1 & 2  or the equivalent at their camps.

Candidates will attend a 5-day encampment with their camps and be tested on the JMG modules.
